Captain Geoffrey Thomas Baggallay, was assasinated in Dublin on November 21st by a three man team on the orders of Michael Collins. Thomas Whelan was convicted of the murder of Captain Baggallay and was executed on March 14th 1921 at Mountjoy Jail, Dublin. There is considerable speculation that in fact the gunman responsible for the killing was in fact Seán Lemass, a future leading politician and Taoiseach.
