Archbishop Dermot O’Hurley was beatified by Pope John Paul II almost 80 years later, on 27 September 1992, and is one of the most celebrated of the 24 formally recognised Irish Catholic Martyrs. A draft of the surrender of Carlow Castle in 1650, pasted behind a sale of ‘Indenture for Morris fitz Garrah (fitz Garrat), late a soldier in Col. Prittors,’with details of his unpaid service, 8th Sept 1651 to 24th Feb. 1653. The draft of the surrender of the Castle contains the origin of the surrender terms as confirmed by historians.
