Whyte's THE ECLECTIC COLLECTOR TIMED ON-LINE AUCTION 18 APRIL 2026

146 230 1922 Bonn na Dála silver medal. Dublin hallmark, 1922. Maker’s mark of Edmond Johnston, with his distinctive Celtic Revival decoration on obverse. Believed to have been issued for services rendered to Dáil Éireann 1919-1922. 1921 medals are also known. Less than 10 of either are recorded, making them 100 times rarer than the 1916 Rising Service Medal. We know one was awarded to a Post Office telephone engineer who may have been monitoring telephone calls of the army and police. This might indicate that the medals were warded for secret services performed by civilians; hence the lack of records. The medals were made by Edmund Johnson and carry his hallmark.
