right; with artist’s instructions in pencil with margins. Dave Brown (born
1961) is a British political cartoonist for the Independent newspaper in
London. Brown began his career on The Sunday Times in 1989, working
for other publications before joining The Independent in 1996.

Facsimile reproduction of a manuscript collection of Russian
architectural drawings originally created at the end of the 1740’s. St.
Petersburg, the capital of eighteenth-century Russia, was founded in
1703. The buildings of the new capital attracted great attention and
significant collections of architectural drawings exist in Stockholm and
Vienna. This collection was recently discovered by Dr Edward McParland
in the library of Trinity College Dublin under the title: A Collection of
Russian Architectural Drawings. They consist of 33 splendid drawings
showing the Winter Palace of Empress Anna Ioannovna, her wooden
Summer Palace, the Anichkov and Peterhof palaces, the Alexander
Nevsky and Smolny monasteries as well as other important churches in
St. Petersburg. Of particular interest are the detailed plans of the three
summer gardens, the Anichkov garden and the parks of Peterhof.
Description: 33 colour drawings, a manuscript list and several loose
sheets of explanatory text, 4pp of introduction. Loose-leaf volume in
case ([1], 19, XXXIX leaves) : colour illustrations, map, architectural
drawings, facsimile reprints ; in a handmade box 49 x 35 x 6cm. Russian
text translated by Larissa Salmina-Haskell, English version edited by
Edward McParland. Photography by Davison & Assocs., Dublin.
