1869-1915 Medals. Moran family group of four.

A Queen’s University Prize Medal, 1869, for First Class with the Degree

of BC to James Moran; a Second Afghan War Medal to Surgeon J.

Moran; and Great War and Victory Medals to W. P. Moran. James Moran

was appointed to the Indian Medical Service in 1878, promoted to

Surgeon Major in 1890 and Surgeon Lieutenant-Colonel in 1898. James

Moran died in Carrickmines, Co. Dublin in 1917. His son William Paul

was a Lieutenant in the 10th Gurkha Rifles. He was killed in action at

Gallipoli in 1915 and is buried in Malta.

1860s 109th Regiment of Foot / County of Dublin Regiment. Bell-top

shako plate.

a brass and white metal bell-top shako plate, surmounted by a

Hanovarian crown above a silver-plated Maid-of-Erin harp over the

number ‘109’ and a silver-plated ribbon engraved “County Dublin”. The

Dublin County Light Infantry militia regiment were balloted with the

number 109 in 1833. The bell-top shako remained in use until the

1840s. Extremely rare.

Emigration Scene by Robert Graysmith

A pen & ink drawing of a late-19th century harbour, by the American

illustrator & author, Robert Graysmith, signed, dated 1995 & inscribed

with dedication to Jim (Dr. James) Toland. 8 x 11in. (20.32 x 27.94cm)

Robert Graysmith worked as a Pulitzer-nominated political cartoonist for the San

Francisco Chronicle when he began his investigation of the ‘Zodiac’ murders. The

story of his involvement in the case was made into the 2007 movie ‘Zodiac’, in

which Graysmith is played by Jake Gyllenhaal.
