1805: Account of a rape and robbery at St. Mullins Carlow
Two manuscript legal documents giving an account of the rape and
robbery of one Mary Lynch, a mother of eight children, and wife of
James Lynch of Enniscorthy, during which she was robbed of two pounds
of tobacco, money and a handkerchief coming from the “unlicensed
shibeen” known as the “Red Soldiers” in Drumin, St. Mullins, Carlow. The
magistrate also notes that because she is a married woman he will not
proceed to prosecute the attackers but desires that she should bring her
husband before him in order that he can proceed. 12½ x 8in. (30 x

details and accounts for new intended roads and for repair of roads
throughout Carlow county. Includes details such as 242 men at 10 pence
per day, 7 boys at 1 penny per day, 63 horses at 2 shillings and 2 pence
per day, stone cleavers, masons, blacksmiths etc. needed. Various sizes.

Sir Jonah Barrington Judge of the High Court of Admiralty in Ireland
‘Personal Sketches of His Own Times’
1827, Henry Colburn, London. 2 vols bound as 1. Sir Jonah Barrington
(born at Knapton, Abbeyleix 1760; died at Versailles, France on 8 April
1834), was an Irish lawyer, judge and politician. He is most notable for
his amusing and popular memoirs of life in late 18th-century Ireland; for
his opposition to the Act of Union in 1800; and for his removal from the
judiciary by both Houses of the Parliament in 1830, still a unique event.

assassin of a British Prime Minister
A letterpress notice from John Bellingham relating to his petitioning the
United Kingdom Government for compensation over his imprisonment in
Russia and signed by him just two months before he assassinated
Spencer Perceval as a direct protest in relation to his grievances, as laid
out in this document.
