of typical form, the 19” nihonto, or traditionally forged sword blade,

mounted on a white metal-bound, black lacquered pole-arm, oval in

section, with black lacquered wooden scabbard. 97in. (246cm)

Provenance: James Adam auction of the contents of Ballymoney Park,

Kilbride, Co. Wicklow, 2nd May, 1973, lot 269, where purchased by the

current owner.

Converted to percussion in mid 1800s, the forestock shortened and re-

shaped, .75 caliber smoothbore. Stamped ‘BM-2 BL-80’ to the barrel and

The two-stage damascus barrel gold inlaid at the fore-sight and rear-

sight. The sidelock gilt inlaid wth a pheasant and a ‘Fowler’ trade plate.

The trigger guard terminating in a pineapple. The well figured walnut

stock with steel butt-plate.The barrel 32” (81cm) long. Total length 48”

(122cm). Provenance: Christie family, Magheraboy House, Coleraine, from

whose sale purchased by the present owner.
