Five typewritten loose foolscap sheets with stapled

corners. Rubber stamped ‘Jan 26 1971’. Text in Irish and

English of the speech given by the Sinn Fein President

Thomas Mac Giolla at the Party conference in Dublin

January, 1970. On that occasion Sinn Fein experienced

a significant split when the decision of abandoning the

armed fight of the IRA in favour of a socialist revolution,

met the opposition from the armed wing of the party.

The opponents became known as ‘Provisional Sinn Fein’

whereas the remaining part renamed itself ‘Official Sinn

Fein’.
