1972 Prisoner Art, Maidstone Prison Ship es-

cape.

A white handkerchief decorated in felt-tip pens with sev-

en men climbing down a ship’s anchor rope and swim-

ming away, viewed through a porthole. Inscribed No.

3 Deck - 1972 - January - 17” and “They broke the news

to Faulkner - He nearly had a fit - When seven from the

Maidstone - Took time out for a dip.” Signed John Sands

and inscribed “Detained Xmas Day 1971 - Maidstone

Prison Ship - Interned Long Kesh - 28 Jan 1972”.”
