The Secret Policeman’s Third Ball. (See Lot 31

1987 - The Secret Policeman’s Third Ball was the

first British Amnesty show to give equal weight to

rock and comedy acts. On the night, photographs

were taken of each of the acts. Their signatures

collected on a A2 sheet of art paper, this was then

reproduced with the photographs in a book pub-

lished about the event, Secret Policeman’s Third

Ball” by Terence Blacker.”

One page letter dated 28 April 1948 typed on per-

sonal notepaper and signed in blue ink. The letter

refers to The Heiress”, which is about to begin

production, de Havilland expresses hope that Rex

Harrison will play the male lead, in fact Montgom-

ery Clift got the part. Framed with a photograph of

de Havilland.”
