Yann Renard Goulet was born in St Nazaire in Brittany in 1914, but became an Irish citizen when he moved
here in 1947. Based in Bray, he quickly established himself on the artistic scene by winning a competition
for the Custom House memorial in 1950. Known mainly for his sculptures, Goulet’s expressive style distin-
guished him as an innovator in the Irish arts scene. He exhibited regularly at the RHA from 1960 to 1993
showing more than sixty works.
