Patrick Marsh (English, b.1943)

Although Van Eyck (Jan van Eyck (c.13951441) is referenced in the given title of this painting, the Portrait

of a Lady depicted in this still life is by the artist’s contemporary, Rogier van der Weyden (c.1399-1464)

and dates to c.1460. The original can be found in the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.

Patrick Marsh is a London born graduate of the University of Oxford and the University of the Sorbonne.

He trained in art at the Ruskin School of Art, Oxford and the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris and later lectured

in English, French and Film Studies in Paris, Dublin &Warwick. After his retirement from teaching, Marsh

returned to painting full-time. Still lifes and genre painting dominates his ouevre. His work can be found

in private collections in Ireland, England, France and Canada. He has exhibited widely including at the

Turner Prize Exhibition, Liverpool (1967), Bristol Art Gallery (1968), Vancouver Art Exhibition (1969), Art

Ireland, Dún Laoghaire (2004 & 2005) and with Jorgensen Fine Art, Dublin (2005).
