1919-1933 German Stahlhelm flag

Flag of “Der Stahlhelm/Bund der Frontsoldaten” (“The Stahlhelm/Union of Frontline Soldiers”), a nationalist

organization of World War I veterans. A Nordic cross in the center, an Iron Cross over a black-white-and-

red banded field in the upper left canton and a German helmet (‘Stahlhelm’) in the centre. Minor moth holes

throughout, rust stains from push-pins along the hoist, else very good.

The Stahlhelm organization operated as both a mutual aid society and a political combat group, and was the largest

nationalist organization in Germany by 1926, with 500,000 members. It later joined the coalition that brought the

NSDAP to power, and was thereafter absorbed into the SA.
