Resting is a beautifully balanced painting that brings together O’Neill’s two great passions, landscape

and women. The mood is typically quiet with a subtle sense of disconnect between the subject and the

viewer, as she gazes off into the distance. The waters barely break a wave on the shore and give an air

of peace and tranquillity to the scene. The palette is a harmony of blues and greys warmed by flesh and

earthy tones favoured by the artist. This finish is textured with impasto adding another dimension to the

work.

Although exhibition records for Resting have not been traced, its size and presentation - in a Dawson

Gallery frame - would suggest it must have been included in a significant exhibition at some stage.

€25,000-€35,000 (£22,730-£31,820 approx.)
