Born at Craigavad, Co. Down, Georgina Moutray

Kyle studied at Colarossi’s in Paris during the

1880s, returning afterwards to Ireland with a

distinctly modern palette and Post-Impressionist

style. She became an active committee member

of the Belfast Art Society (later called the Ulster

Academy of Arts) and was a dominant persona

in Belfast exhibitions in the 1920s and 30s (see

Snoddy, page 328). A retrospective was held in

2004 at The Naughton Gallery, Queen’s University,

Belfast.
