Sigerson, Dora [Mrs. Clement Shorter]. Love of Ireland and Poems of the Irish Rebellion 1916,

numbered 4 of 25.

Maunsel and Co., Dublin and London, 1916. 8vo. two volumes bound as one, 93, (2), 8 pages, signed and

inscribed to flyleaf by Clement Shorter to C. Albert Maggs in December 1916 and numbered 4 of 25 to

the colophon page, modern green linen binding by Bayntun, Bath, top edge gilt. Excellent condition with

only minor signs of external wear.

Dora Maria Sigerson Shorter (1866-1918) was an Irish poet and sculptor, who after her marriage in 1895

wrote under the name Dora Sigerson Shorter. She was born in Dublin, Ireland, the daughter of George

Sigerson, a surgeon and writer, and Hester (née Varian), also a writer. She was a major figure of the Irish

Literary Revival, publishing many collections of poetry from 1893. Her friends included Katharine Tynan,

Rose Kavanagh and Alice Furlong, writers and poets.

In 1895 she married Clement King Shorter, an English journalist and literary critic. They lived together in

London, until her death at age 51 from undisclosed causes.
