CHRISTOPHER CASSON mixed media sketches (4); each signed by the
artist
Christopher Casson (1912–1996) was English-born actor who became an
Irish citizen in 1946. In 1938 he joined Hilton Edwards and Micheál Mac
Liammóir at the Gate Theatre. There he met and married stage designer
and artist Kay O’Connell in 1941. Mac Liammóir was best man at their
ceremony. He worked with Longford Productions until 1950, when he
became a freelance actor. His work included stage, screen, radio and
television roles. He is best known for his role as Canon Browne in the
long-running TV series The Riordans.
