Faber & Faber, London 1966. First Edition, Third Impression with original

wrappers. Signed and dated by Heaney on the title page “to set the

darkness echoing Omagh 12th May 1972” and together with loosely

inserted ticket to The Omagh Players presentation of “The Hard Road An

Entertainment in Words and Music with Seamus Heaney, David

Hammond, Tony McAuley”, which took place on the day prior to Heaney

signing this example at Omagh. Scarce. Also Heaney, Seamus.

Heaney and dated in his hand 5 December 1995. Signed in the owner’s

car while bringing Mr Heaney and his wife to Dublin Airport en route to

various Australian lawyers & jurists, the guests at a luncheon in honour

of Justice Niall McCarthy (1925-1991) at the Parliament of New South

Wales; together with a luncheon menu signed by Maurice Curran and

the invitation to Niall McCarthy.

Called to the Bar in 1945 and the inner Bar in 1959, Niall McCarthy was chairman

of the Bar council from 1980 until his appointment to the Supreme Court in 1982.

The renowned barrister of his day, his work included representing Charles Haughey

in the Arms Trial.
