1940s. Maud Gonne-MacBride correspondence with an IRA veteran
A collection of twelve handwritten letters by Maud-Gonne MacBride to
Vincent Crompton, together with two letters on Clann na Poblachta
letterhead, a reference etc.
Vincent Crompton, aged 36, and Jean Dobson, aged 19, occupied a Bonnie and Clyde
status in the Liverpool IRA in the late 1930s. They led a cell of young activists and
were arrested following a series of bombings in August 1939. Crompton was
imprisoned and returned to Ireland on his release. The correspondence relates to his
attempt to build a new life in Dublin in the late 1940s.

Swinging His Baton. 1966. 11.25 x 9.75 Inches. Good Probably a New York
city cop. Inscribed, signed and dated. William “Bill” Papas (15 July 1927 -19
June 2000) was a political cartoonist and caricaturist, book author and
illustrator, and watercolourist. In the 1960s and 1970s he worked for The
Guardian, The Sunday Times and Punch. His work has won international
acclaim and is included in many private and corporate collections.
