1970 ‘B’-Specials Final Commemoration Service, Order of Service,

signed

The Order Of Service signed to the cover by James Chichester Clarke,

Prime Minister of Northern Ireland; John L. O. (Jack) Andrews, Deputy

Prime Minister N. I.; Sir Norman Stronge, among others. The Royal

Ulster Special Constabulary, known as “The B-Specials” was disbanded

in May 1970, following the publishing of the 1969 Hunt Committee

Report. Their last date on duty was 30 March 1970.

1985. Hugh Aodh Doherty (b.1950) Prisoner Art.

Farm Buildings On A Shoreline and Figure And A Cow On A Path, Oil on

card, 6.5” x 12.5” & 5.5” x 10.5” respectively. Signed ‘Hugh Doherty

POW Parkhurst Prison’ & dated 1985. Hugh Doherty was arrested at the

conclusion of the Balcombe Street Siege in December 1975 and

sentenced to 11 terms of life imprisonment. He began art classes while

imprisoned at Parkhurst Prison on The Isle of Wight. He was released

from prison in 1999 after serving 24 years.

A hardwood shield-shaped plaque, chip carved in low-relief with a

scrolling ribbon enblazoned “Irish Republican Army”. above the arms of

Cavan over a scroll entitled “Cavan Roll of Honour” and listing various

names: Thomas Sheridan, Joseph Mc Mahon, Sean McIntyre, Michael

Baxter, Sean McCartney, Eddie Boylan, Andy Sullivan, Thomas

Fitzpatrick, Patrick McManus, Paddy Dermody, James Crossan, Jack

McCabe. flanked by two AK-47 assault rifles, surrounded by the arms

of the four provinces. With brass plate engraved “To Big Joe - From -

The Monaghan & Tyrone - POWs Portlaoise Jail 1985.” 23 x 28in. (58.42

2007 (8 May) Northern Ireland Assembly signed commemorative

brochure

A commemorative brochure produced for the occasion of the opening

of the Assembly in May 2007 signed by political figures including Tony

Blair, Bertie Ahern. Martin McGuinness, Ian Paisley (inscribed “Ephesians

6 v 19-20”), Peter Hain, Albert Reynolds, Gerry Kelly, John Hume, Gerry

Adams. Ministers of the Assembly have also signed beside their

respective portraits including Peter Robinson, Caitriona Ruane, Nigel

Dodds, Michael McGimpsey, Margaret Ritchie, Conor Murphy, Arlene

Foster, Michelle Gildernew, Edwin Poots and Reg Empey. An extremely

scarce piece of ephemera relating to one of the most important

moments in Northern Ireland’s recent history. Also with a unsigned

example of the same brochure. (2 items)

from illustrator John Tenniel

MacMillan, London, 1910, 122pp, original boards. With final page of ms

letter signed by John Tenniel, illustrator of the book and 1905

magazine clipping relating to him tipped in at free front end paper.

Letter content relating to his decision to stop his work as a cartoonist

and illustrator and to focus on painting. An interesting item. 8 x 5½in.
