Berlin born Edith London is celebrated for her abstract
paintings and work in collage with examples of her work in
the collection of North Carolina Museum of Art, The Cameron
Museum of Art, Wilmington, NC, NC State University, Duke
University, and the National Humanities Center. London
studied art first in her native Germany and then at the British
Academy in Rome. In 1933 she relocated to Oxford with her
husband and later studied at the Académie André L'Hote in
Paris. After her husband's passing she moved to the United
States in 1954 where she taught at Drake University, North
Carolina until 1969, returning as a visiting professor in 1973.
