1916 Sinn Fein Rebellion Handbook - an Irish Volunteer’s copy.

The 1917 edition, 286pp, re-bound in green cloth with gilt title to spine (professional restoration to tips of

corners of few pages, pp 283 - 286 photocopied replacements). This book was originally the property of John

Quigley, who marked his name in ink on page 75. Quigley was one of the 308 prisoners transported from

Richmond Barracks to Knutsford Detention Barracks on May 2nd 1916 following the Rising, and is noted in

the Sinn Fein Rebellion Handbook as having been an ex-policeman; together with a 1916 edition of the Sinn

Fein Rebellion Handbook.

A 22 year old Roman Catholic shop assistant from Rosslea, Co. Fermanagh, Quigley was appointed 9678

Constable in the Dublin Metropolitan Police on 30th October 1891, seeing service in ‘C’ Division from that

date, and ‘A’ Division from 10th September 1897, but was ‘’directed to resign’’ from the force on 25th October

1904.
