1871-76: Letters and sketch by Sir Arthur MacMorrough Kavanagh
MP
Two letters and a hunting sketch by the remarkable man Arthur
MacMorrough Kavanagh born without arms or legs. Both letters on
House of Commons headed paper and addressed to ‘Devine’ dated 3 May
1871 and 7 March 1876. Content relating to parliamentary business
including an appointment for Borris Post Office. The hunting scene
sketch and former letter pasted down on the reverse of the 1876 letter.

by Kenneth Kavanagh, which tells the story of Kavanagh. Born without
arms and legs he led a life full to the extent of disbelief. Not only an MP
he became a proficient horseman, learned to fish and shoot, all by

1883: Charles Stewart Parnell Pocket Watch
Unusual pocketwatch with portrait of the Home Rule leader on the face.
Swiss made and hallmarked London 1883. Dust cover with retailer’s mark
of A. Heine, Waterford. Parnell was made a freeman of the city in 1880.

1883 (October 22) Printed fund raising letter for the defence of
Patrick O’Donnell
Scarce printed letter produced by The Irish World newspaper New York
and sent to Irish Americans in an attempt to raise funds for the defence
of Patrick O’Donnell of Gweedore, Co. Donegal who was due to go on
trial for the killing of the former ‘Invincible’ leader James Carey. Carey
had given evidence against his fellow ‘Invincibles’ during the Phoenix
Park Murders trial and had attempted to flee to South Africa under an
assumed name, however on the journey O’Donnell became aware of his
true identity and killed him. An extremely interesting historical piece
complete with original envelope addressed to “J. Dickson, Mansfield,
O[hio]” 9 x 12in. (22.86 x 30.48cm)
