1913: Sir Hugh Lane “Gift of Pictures for Ireland” fund raising linen
Lithograph on linen. Titled “Sold by the Irish Players at $1.00 towards a
building to save Sir Hugh Lane’s Great Gift of Pictures for Ireland April
1913”. Decorated with portrait and signatures of famous actors, poets
and authors including WB Yeats and Lady Gregory.

passing Fastnet Rock
Lighthouse on her maiden voyage in 1912, attractively framed. Painted
by James Morton an artist and illustrator renowned for the historical
accuracy of his maritime and aviation scenes and whose works are
much sought after. A similar painting by the same artist was sold by
Whyte’s in April 2012 (realised
5,600). This example however shows
the famous ship in a different position, closer to the shore and with the
Fastnet more prominent. Together with a copy of an

James MacDonald oil painting: Britannic at Sail
HMHS Britannic was the third and largest Olympic-class ocean liner of
the White Star Line. She was the sister ship of RMS Olympic and RMS
Titanic, and was intended to enter service as a transatlantic passenger
liner. She was launched just before the start of the First World War and
was laid up at her builders in Belfast for many months before being put
to use as a hospital ship in 1915. She was shaken by an explosion,
caused by an underwater mine, in the Kea Channel off the Greek island
of Kea on the morning of 21 November 1916, and sank with the loss of
30 lives.

leading Titanic artist. Complete with certificate of authenticity and
accompanied by the book Ken Marschall’s Art of Titanic signed by
author and with slipcase. Also with a modern reproduction of an Irish
WW1 recruiting poster framed as a decorative piece (3 items)

1915 (May 7) Lusitania ‘commemorative’ medals
A pair of Lusitania medals both with original boxes and pamphlets. A
British propaganda copy of a German medal issued to mark the sinking
of the Lusitania off The Old Head of Kinsale, Co. Cork, on 7 May 1915
(the medal is incorrectly dated “5 May”). The obverse shows the ship
sinking with weapons piled up on its decks. “KEINE BANN WARE” (“NO
CONTRABAND”), and the reverse shows a skeleton selling tickets for
Cunard to a queue of passengers inscribed “GESCHAFT UBER ALLES”
“BUSINESS ABOVE ALL”). These copies were sold for one shilling each in
Selfridges to raise funds for charities.”

Department Of Recruiting for Ireland. World War 1 Recruiting
Poster: Can You Any Longer Resist the Call?
Dublin & Belfast: McCaw, Stevenson & Orr, 72.5 x 50 cm (29 x 20
inches). Good Poster issued by the Department of Recruiting for Ireland
and printed by McCaw, Stephenson & Orr, Dublin. Produced in 1915 and
portraying an Irish farmer ploughing a field, pausing to look at a
ghostly vision of St Patrick gesturing to the ruins of Reims Cathedral.
With the title positioned in the lower quarter on an orange
background. Light wear. 2 inch tear at bottom edge, but no paper loss.

1914-1918: First World War Irish interest photograph album
An extremely interesting album of original photographs and
photographic postcards marked on the cover with the address of the
owner at Howth, County Dublin. Contents include British Army
portraits, topographical images of Egypt taken while on service, images
of men and women in service uniform, images of HMS Renown at Suez
1921 and many others. Many of the images with titles or details
identifying sitters. Approx 90 photographs

Circa 1914.
Circa 300 photos are cigarette card size, the rest range from about 5.5 x
3.5 to 3 x 3.5 inches approx. All pasted into an album, many captioned.
Images include: Alexandria - Sultan’s Palace, Italian Boys band, Yacht
club, fishing with nets, Luxor - market & temple, houses near the
temple, water carriers, boats on the river Nile, Kitchener’s Island at
Aswan, mud villages, the Sakieh, natives working water wheels, water
carriers, washing day, sugar cane at Edfu, military & hospital personnel,
Luxor to Aswan train, lemonade seller, hat squeezing shop, milk seller,
Kitchener’s guide, natives at Shillal, prisoners of war at Sidi Bishr camp,
snake charmer, Private Clist in a fancy motor car - possibly Kitchener’s
driver, military hospital, rail car, A fascinating collection.
