Adolphe Adam (1803-1856), French composer. Two handwritten signed
notes

Addressees unknown. First refers to a settlement of 128 francs for the
addressee to renounce any claim against M. & Madame Emdine for pieces
of music in his/her possession. Second refers to a trip to Batignoles to
audition a bass and a tenor. Adolphe Charles Adam is best known today
for his ballets Giselle (1841) and Le Corsaire (1856, his last work), his
operas Le Postillon de Lonjumeau (1836), Le Toréador (1849) and his
Christmas Carol Minuit, Chrétiens! (1844), later set to different English
lyrics and widely sung as O Holy Night (1847). (2)

Leo Delibes (1836-1891), French composer, handwritten signed note.
A request for a musical arrangement from M. Artur. Clément Philibert Léo
Delibes was a French composer of ballets, operas, and other works for the
stage. His most notable works include ballets Coppélia (1870) and Sylvia
(1876) as well as the operas Le Roi l’a Dit (1873) and Lakmé (1883). Some
musicologists believe that the ballet in Gounod’s Faust was actually
composed by Delibes. He died in Paris from natural causes on 16 January
1891, at the age of 54. He was buried in the Cimetière de Montmartre in
Paris.

Charles Gounod (1818-1893), French composer - “A ma Therese”
handwritten and signed part composition.
Framed. Shows three lines of music and lyrics signed “Ch. Gounod”.
Charles-François Gounod, best known for his Ave Maria (based on a work
by Bach) as well as his opera Faust. Another opera by Gounod, occasionally
still performed, is Roméo et Juliette.

Circa 1930 John McCormack handwritten letter to artist Leo Whelan
regarding his portrait and other matters.
Single page with Moore Abbey, Monasterevan, Kildare heading, “The
portrait is still magnificent and I think you are a great portrait painter.
Bravo!”. McCormack mentions purchasing a Lavery which he is donating to
the Municipal Gallery and offering a prize of £50 for the “best painting of
the year”. Accompanied by a photograph of Leo Whelan with McCormack
and the portrait, also a programme for a John McCormack recital at The
Theatre Royal Dublin in 1936. (3)

Yehudi Menuhin (1916-1999) signed letter, 1972.
Typed letter from Highgate, London, to Beatrice and Serge Leval, 5
December 1972, concerning an invitation. Yehudi Menuhin, was an
American-born violinist and conductor who spent most of his performing
career in the United Kingdom. He is widely considered one of the greatest
violinists of the 20th century.

Bing Crosby: 1949 letter and collection of film star photographs.
1949 typed letter signed “Bing” in blue ink, also small photograph signed
by Eddie Cantor on reverse, June 1951, along with collection of postcard
sized photographs (80), mainly by “People” and BBC, and some larger 10 x
8 inch including some recent reprints but including two original
photographs of Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford. (100)

including John Wayne, Maureen O’Hara etc.
Collected by James Farrell, Ashford Castle, Cong, where much of the
filming took place. Also includes Barry Fitzgerald, Ward Bond, Arthur
Shields, Francis Ford, Victor McLoghlen, Jack McGowran, Joseph O’Dea,
Philip Stainton, May Craig and Gracie Fields. Accompanied by 1999
reprints of original photographs (17) showing many of the cast during the
filming at Cong, also 3 modern repro postcards of the film cast and crew
and three Irish theatre programmes and a requiem card for Jimmy O’Dea.

Sir Roger Moore (b. 1927) 1969 a rare special edition humorous
wedding invitation designed and signed by the actor
A mock “Call Sheet” for “Roger & Luisa or Two’s Coy. 4’s a Family”,
“Production: Their Wedding”. Amusing typed content, signed by Moore and
with “Don’t be late” inscription in his hand. Dated 11 April. This was
Moore’s third marriage, to Luisa Mattioli and it lasted until 1996. At the
time of this wedding Moore was in the seventh and last year of playing
the lead in the famous television series “The Saint”. Four years later he
would take over the lead in the series of James Bond films. This rare item
(only a few were made) was sent to Eamon Andrews, the famous Irish born
broadcaster, who gifted it to the present owner’s mother. Attractively
