Trinity College Dublin silver medals 18th to 20th century collection.

1794 Historical Society silver medal to Rob. Deane, and three college

medals 1853, 1908 and undated, three different types all with Queen

Elizabeth obverse. Good fine to very fine. (4).

1868 Frederick Steele medal Portora Royal School, Enniskillen.

Bronze , 50mm. FREDERICK STEELE DIED 5 NOV 1866 obverse. Slight

oxidisation on obverse, very fine and rare.

The Royal School at Enniskillen was founded in the reign of Charles I. A

son of Rev. W. Steele, D.D., Head Master, was drowned when boating on

Lough Erne; in remembrance of this accident the Steele Memorial Prize,

“value £12,” was annually awarded, and this medal was struck as a record

of his death. Frederick Steele senior was a famous headmaster of the

school and noted for his development of its reputation in the 1860s to

the 1870s, including renaming the school “Portora Royal School”.

1882, Photographic Society of Ireland 1901, and Amateur Photographic

Royal Irish Academy and Royal Hibernian Academy medals.

“JACOBUS COMES DE CHARLEMONT PRAES” and bust of Lord Charlemont

obverse, ACAD.REG. HIB. INST. JAN 28 MDCCLXXXVI (1786), bronze, 50mm,

commemorating the granting of the royal charter to the Irish Academy,

and 1876 RHA prize medal in copper, 65mm, Queen Victoria bust obverse,

inscribed on reverse to Joseph Malachy Kavanagh for Second in “Drawing

from Living Model”. About fine holed at 11 o’clock at edge, and good very

fine. (2)

The third Viscount Charlemont was the first president of the Royal Irish

Academy and was a well known patron of the arts.

medals include Duke of Devonshire medal by Woodhouse for “Improving

Tenant”, Irish Dairy Association 1895, Imokilly and Barrymore Farming

Society by Parkes, not inscribed. Mainly very fine. (8)

Polled Aberdeen Angus Association, 45mm, Roscommon 1903 and 1905,

Royal A.S. of Ireland 45mm for Roscommon Farming Society 1867, and

1868, Roscommon AS by I. Parkes, 45mm 1870; bronze medals with

Roscommon A.S. by I. Parkes 1866, Roscommon Union by Collis, 52mm,

1843 and Irish Hereford Breeders Strokestown 1955, 52mm. Recipients

include Arthur Chute, H. D’E. Strevens, Lord Crofton and T.E. King. Mainly
