1916 Rising. A comprehensive collection of
stamps, postal history and picture postcards
associated with the Easter Rising.
Includes the Sinn Fein “stamps” issued by Arthur
Griffith in 1907, 1916 rare In Memoriam sheet-
let of 8 “stamps” issued in America, emergency
postal markings used in May 1916 due to the
destruction of the GPO, and a valuable collection
of picture postcards (70+) of the Rising including
leaders and well known participants, with some
rare including Richard O’Carroll, John McEntee
etc., and scenes of destruction with some scarcer
types such as Interior ColiseumTheatre, etc., also
some later commemorative items such as scarce
1941, 1958 and 1966 postage stamps on First Day
Covers, scarce 2006 90th Anniversary VIP booklet
to guests on reviewing stand at parade in Dublin.
A unique collection assembled over 50 years by
the present owner, with many useful notes, news
cuttings etc.

1916 Rising. “Rebel Postage Stamps”.
Four gummed labels showing the “Manchester
Martyrs” on a tricolour background. Some of these
labels are known affixed to messages carried by
Fianna during the Rising hence the contempora-
neous inscription on the envelope containing them
- “The Sinn Fein Rebellion 1916...Rebel Postage
Stamps”. See lot 217 which was from the same
source.
