1798 interest Petty Session information document circa 1810 relating
to The Battle of Kilcumney
A single sheet manuscript courts statement by Michael Stapleton of
Carlow with information relating to a case including the fact that he has
known one of those involved, Patrick Laffan, "...to have lived in great
poverty since the death of his father, who was killed on the day of the
Battle of Kilcumney in 1798, by some of His Majesties troops...". Peadar
MacSuibhne in his book '98 in Carlow gives a transcript of an account by
Rebellion leader Thomas Cloney of the aftermath of Kilcumney who
stated that "...men, women and children were butchered this day in cold
blood... They murdered also in this townland Peter Kinsella, Darby Ryan
and Michael Laffan and his daughter". 13 x 8 in. (33 x 20cm)

circa: 1800 Dublin Castle Brown Bess Musket with bayonet
A late 18th century flintlock ‘’Dublin Castle’’ Brown Bess musket with
bayonet, 107cm (42’’) barrel, brass fittings, lock engraved with the royal
cypher and additionally impressed ‘’Dublin Castle’’. with a steel ramrod
and triangular steel socket bayonet, 188cm (74’’) overall. This type of
weapon was used during the 1798 Rebellion.

An oval George III Officer’s shoulder belt plate engraved with crowned
Maid of Erin harp. Surrounded and surmounted by Royal Cypher and
above the date “1796”. Scrolls above and below containing the name of
the regiment. Reverse with double stud and single hook. 3.10 x 2.40in.
