A photograph of mourners from the Madame
de Markievicz Cumann, Fianna Fail, at Countess
Markievicz’s funeral. Following her death on a
public ward, “where I wanted to be”, Markievicz
was refused a state funeral by the Free State gov-
ernment. She was buried at Glasnevin Cemetery,
Dublin. Eamon de Valera gave the funeral oration.

1916 Oglaigh na hEireann belt worn by a Volun-
teer, GPO Garrison, Easter 1916.
A brown leather military style belt stamped with
“Deanta in Eireann” symbol, brass two-part clasp,
the tongue with harp motif, the receiver embla-
zoned “Oglaigh na hEireann”.
Provenance: By descent to the present owner,
details to the purchaser on request.

Also with this lot a piece of shrapnel, a white
metal charm or badge in the shape of a revolver,
a magnifier made with a brass cartridge, all once
the property of Daniel Maher (1894-1961), who
served in the 1916 Rising and War of Independ-
ence.
Accompanied by notes on Danie Maher and his
sister Kathleen who was also involved in the Ris-
ing, arrested but released by the authorities. Daniel
was sent to Stafford Jail.
