Grace Gifford Plunkett (1888-1955). “Familiar Faces” hand drawn and coloured booklet.

Circa 1907.14pp including cover, hand sewn stitching. Apparently created by Gifford while at the Metropoli-

tan School of Art, Dublin. The booklet, includes 9 ink and watercolour drawings, mainly lampooning teach-

ers at the art school including “The Celtic Child”, “Benevolent Barden”, “Terrible Tilly”, “Sunny Sheppard”,

“Languid Luke”, “Remarkable Reeves” and “Jocose Jacobs”. A unique example of the precocious talent of

Grace Gifford.

Provenance: B. I. Tilly, Registrar of The Metropolitan School of Art, Dublin 1905-1920;

Thence by descent to the present owner.

Grace Evelyn Gifford Plunkett (4 March 1888 – 13 December 1955) was an Irish artist who was active in the

Republican movement, and who married her fiancée Joseph Plunkett in Kilmainham Gaol only a few hours

before he was executed for his part in the 1916 Easter Rising.
