1927-pattern Irish steel helmet by Vickers
Painted white for use by emergency services after
it was decommissioned by the Defence Forces in
1940.
This “coal scuttle” shape helmet, although made
by Vickers in the UK, was similar in appearance to
German helmets, and during World War II was a
source of criticism by British media commenting
on Irish neutrality. This may have been why it was
replaced by the British Mark II type in 1940 and
the Vickers helmets were painted white and issued
to emergency services.
Estimate €70-€100 £54.6-£78
